I’m recruiting a Finance Manager for an established, privately owned business in Hertfordshire. This is a hands-on opportunity to manage a small finance team and take ownership of the day-to-day running of the finance function. The business is growing, but remains practical, fast-moving and relatively non-corporate. They need a Finance Manager who is comfortable getting into the detail, resolving issues and bringing greater structure to reporting and processes. You’ll work closely with the directors, senior leadership team and external finance support. You’ll need to be visible and approachable, with the confidence to provide reliable financial information and get involved wherever needed. What you’ll be doing * Managing and developing a small transactional finance team * Owning the month-end close and producing management accounts and reports * Monitoring cash flow, working capital and financial performance * Supporting budgets, forecasts and variance analysis * Overseeing day-to-day transactional finance and the end-to-end payroll process * Maintaining financial controls and supporting statutory compliance * Providing useful financial analysis to directors and other senior colleagues * Improving systems and processes as the business grows What they’re looking for You’ll have experience in a broad Finance Manager role or of running a finance function within an SME. Strong month-end and management accounting knowledge is essential, along with experience of managing people, overseeing payroll and working with directors and non-finance colleagues. You’ll be organised and dependable, able to handle competing priorities and happy to take a practical approach when something needs sorting out. Strong Excel and finance systems skills are also important. Applicants should be at least part-qualified in ACA, ACCA or CIMA. A full qualification would be welcome, but relevant experience and the ability to take ownership will carry more weight. This Finance Manager role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the day-to-day operation and wants to make a visible difference in a down-to-earth business. Salary: Circa £50,000–£60,000, depending on experience Location: Hertfordshire, fully office-based five days per week
