Senior Quantity Surveyor - Utilities
Major London Infrastructure Project | Main Contractor | Up to 65k p/a
We're recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial and cost management across multiple civils packages on a major station modernisation and infrastructure delivery scheme in London. You'll own commercial strategy, lead a small QS team, and manage cost for works spanning utilities, structural, civils, and fit-out scopes. You'll partner with project controls, design teams, and senior stakeholders to drive value, manage risk, and deliver commercial outcomes on a complex, multi-billion-pound programme.
Key Responsibilities
Lead commercial strategy and cost management across multiple work packages and disciplines
Establish, maintain, and defend cost budgets and forecasts; escalate and resolve significant variances
Mentor and line-manage junior QS staff and support cost engineers
Develop and implement change control, variation order, and claims strategy
Lead commercial negotiations with key subcontractors and suppliers
Monitor and forecast subcontractor performance, invoicing, and payment applications at portfolio level
Prepare commercial reports and cost forecasts for main board and project controls; present to senior stakeholders
Identify and develop commercial claims and cost recovery opportunities; manage dispute resolution
Liaise with civils, structural, and MEP teams on cost and schedule implications of design and scope changes
Maintain commercial records, cost models, and supporting documentation to defend the contractual and financial position
Contribute to procurement strategy and tender evaluation for major packagesAbout You
Chartered QS (RICS) or equivalent - or RICS eligible with substantial post-graduate experience
10+ years' post-qualification experience in infrastructure cost management, with proven track record on Tier 1 and Tier 2 projects
Demonstrated leadership experience managing QS teams or cost functions
Expert-level Excel, cost management software (Predict, Causeway, or equivalent), and financial modelling skills
Confident managing £100m+ cost portfolios and complex, multi-disciplinary packages
Strong negotiation and stakeholder management; credibility at director and client level
Experience on major rail, station, or infrastructure modernisation schemes a distinct advantage
Professional maturity and commercial acumen; able to advise senior project leadershipWhat We Offer
