Job Title: School Caretaker Location: Barking & Dagenham and surrounding areas Salary: £15–£18 per hour (depending on experience) Start Date: ASAP Settings: Primary, Secondary & SEN Schools Company: Complete Classroom Services About the Role Complete Classroom Services is currently recruiting School Caretakers to work across a variety of Primary, Secondary, and SEN schools in Barking & Dagenham and the surrounding areas. We are looking for reliable, proactive, and hands-on individuals who take pride in maintaining safe, secure, and well-presented school environments. The ideal candidate will have practical DIY, maintenance, and repair experience and be confident carrying out general repairs and resolving day-to-day site issues. Your Responsibilities Will Include: * Opening and closing school buildings and ensuring site security * Carrying out general DIY, maintenance, and repair work * Completing minor repairs, including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance * Carrying out Health & Safety checks, including fire alarms and emergency exits * Maintaining clean and safe communal, indoor, and outdoor areas * Monitoring heating, lighting, water, and other building systems * Setting up and preparing rooms and facilities for school events and meetings * Liaising with external contractors and reporting maintenance or site issues * Ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, and well maintained * Supporting the school's safeguarding and Health & Safety procedures Ideal Candidate Will Have: * Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Caretaker, Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Operative, or similar role * Strong DIY and practical repair skills – essential * Experience carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs * A reliable, proactive, and trustworthy approach to work * Good communication and organisational skills * The ability to work independently and as part of a school site team * Flexibility to support the operational needs of the school * An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for and pay for a new Enhanced DBS Why Work with Us? * Immediate/ASAP starts available * Opportunities across a variety of school settings * Competitive hourly rates of £15–£18 per hour * Flexible, long-term, and ongoing opportunities * Dedicated support from the Complete Classroom Services team * Opportunities to secure ongoing or permanent positions Apply Today If you have strong DIY, maintenance, and repair experience and are looking for a new opportunity within the education sector, we would love to hear from you.
