Part-Time Finance Assistant / Bookkeeper
Location: Barnstaple, Devon
Hours: 18 hours per week, over 4 days
Working Pattern: Office-based - no hybrid working

Salary: £13.40 - £14.00 per hour
The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting on behalf of an established and successful business based in Barnstaple, who are looking to appoint a Part-Time Finance Assistant / Bookkeeper on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join a well-established business and take over from a long-standing member of the finance team.
The successful candidate will have a varied role, combining general finance administration, bookkeeping and client portfolio administration. You will play an important part in ensuring financial records are accurate and up to date, whilst also managing automated billing systems and contract administration for a portfolio of clients.
The position offers 18 hours per week, worked across 4 days, and is fully office-based.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include:
Raising and processing sales invoices
Managing the purchase ledger
Processing supplier invoices and maintaining accurate records
Completing bank reconciliations
Completing company credit card reconciliations
Posting and processing financial transactions
Managing and maintaining automated billing systems
Overseeing contract administration for an allocated client portfolio
Ensuring client billing is accurate, timely and in accordance with contractual requirements
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date client and financial records
Monitoring outstanding invoices and assisting with credit control
Assisting with month-end finance procedures
Responding to finance-related queries from customers and suppliers
General finance administration and support
Providing support to the wider finance function as required About You
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Bookkeeper or similar role and be comfortable managing a varied day-to-day finance workload.
You will need to demonstrate:
Previous experience in a similar finance or bookkeeping position
Good knowledge of sales invoicing and purchase ledgers
Experience completing bank and credit card reconciliations
Experience of working with automated billing systems
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage contract administration across a client portfolio
Excellent attention to detail, particularly when dealing with invoicing, billing and contractual information
Proficiency in Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or a similar accounting system
A high level of accuracy and a methodical approach to your work
The ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
The ability to work independently and take ownership of your workload
A reliable and conscientious approach
Good communication skills and confidence dealing with customers, suppliers and colleagues
