Health & Safety Manager Naughton Contracts Limited (NCL) Location: Hatfield, Hertfordshire – (with travel across UK projects) Competitive day rate (Contract) or salary (PAYE) available, depending on your preference Naughton Contracts Ltd is a young, ambitious civil engineering company delivering groundworks, concrete, and RC frame projects across Europe, including Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Austria. About the Role The Health and Safety Manager is a full-time role based in Hatfield, part office based with site visits to UK projects. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures across civil engineering and construction activities, working closely with project managers, site supervisors, and clients to promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement in health and safety performance. Key Responsibilities * Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures across civil engineering and construction activities. * Conduct site inspections and risk assessments across active project sites. * Monitor compliance with relevant UK and EU health and safety legislation and industry standards. * Ensure safe systems of work are in place and consistently followed. * Deliver safety inductions and training to site teams and subcontractors. * Investigate incidents and near misses, preparing clear reports and corrective action plans. * Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and clients to promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement. * Maintain accurate documentation, policies, and procedures in line with company and regulatory requirements. Experience * Experience in civil engineering, concrete works, or groundworks projects, and familiarity with data centres or industrial facilities. * Demonstrated expertise in health and safety management within construction or civil engineering, including risk assessment, method statements, and safe systems of work. * Proven ability to work on-site, manage multiple projects, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge * Strong knowledge of relevant UK and EU health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards, with the ability to apply them on active project sites. * Sound understanding of incident reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning. * Awareness of civil engineering, groundworks, and construction methods and associated risks. Qualifications * Recognised health and safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, or equivalent). * Membership, or working towards membership, of a professional safety body (e.g. IOSH) is highly beneficial. Skills * Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deliver training, influence site teams, and engage with clients and stakeholders. * Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. * Competence in using digital tools for reporting, audits, and safety management systems. * Proactive, hands-on approach with sound judgement in identifying and managing risk.
